Course introduction

Telemedicine is revolutionizing healthcare by connecting patients and professionals remotely through innovative technologies, particularly Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). This course provides an introduction to telemedicine and its key applications, such as televisits, teleconsultations, telemonitoring, and teleassistance.

The course emphasizes how telemedicine enhances healthcare by improving access to medical services, ensuring continuity of care, and supporting patients in managing chronic conditions. It highlights the convenience telemedicine offers, such as reducing travel, waiting times, and logistical challenges for both patients and healthcare providers.

Learners will explore the essential components needed to implement telemedicine, including the required hardware, software, and secure communication platforms. Practical steps like patient selection, obtaining consent, and monitoring processes are covered to ensure safe and effective service delivery.
